General Reminders #3

september 22, 2010

Last minute reminders!

Don’t forget to follow SinsCon on Twitter! Whether it’s schedule changes or hotel parties, we’ll be sending out updates that way. If you don’t use Twitter, the next best thing to follow is our Event Staff! ;)

OH FUCK

What to do when there is a problem during Con? Ask our Event Staff! Who might that be?

Blocking…eeuurrgh?

september 21, 2010

Due to a technical snafu (and general lack of time), the blocking for Shock Treatment and Rocky will not be emailed to the performers. Instead, we offer the following solutions:

1) Find Lizabeth Stockton during the day at Club 740 on Friday. She will happily answer any blocking questions you have. Clue 740 has a balcony and stairs that should be utilized by the performers.

2) There will be a Rocky Horror blocking rehearsal on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Million Dollar Theater on Saturday. It is not mandatory, but if you have questions about your blocking, it might be good to stop by.

Also, feel free to email Lizabeth with any blocking questions you might have.

See you in a couple of days!!

General Reminders #2!

september 20, 2010

More notes about the upcoming Con! Can’t wait to see all of you!

• We will be providing shuttles! You will be able to hop on a shuttle to get from the Standard to 740, the Alexandria, and the Million Dollar Theater.
• We will also be providing bag checks at 740! This allows you the ability to skip heading back to the hotel to change from your Friday-day wear to Rocky Prom wear. Please try to change during the break or during Shock Treatment, if you’re not in the show. There will also be some changing areas in the Alexandria, but we need to move it (move it) after Shocky and clear out 740. Unclaimed bags will be taken from 740 to the Alexandria in our shuttles, so if you don’t need it after the movie, please don’t clog up the line :)

And lastly… a note about partying at the Standard (and why maybe you shouldn’t sit/stand/sex on the hotel room desks):

Howdy, Deadly Sinners!

We can’t believe the convention, over 2 years in planning, is less than a week away!! omgz!!111.

The Standard says it is excited to welcome us. Room assignments are being done and it is looking so cool. They wanted us to tell you that they know we are crazy party people, and we have come to the right place. But check this out … and let this be known by all … in fact, repeat after me: I. State Your Name. Will Not. Break. _Anything_.

No, really: Due to the Standard’s unique designy coolness, *everything* was custom-made and is very expensive to replace.

The following is a list of replacement costs, and it has the potential to Blow Your Mind.

Desk Chair – $600.00
14’ Desk (Desks are Not For Sitting!) – $1000.00
I-home – $450.00
Lamps above the bed – $400.00
Foam Foot in WOW Suite – $3000.00

(And you thought the minibar charges at the last con were a problem.)

Most of this stuff is built industrial-strength for the drunken rockstars (like us) the hotel was built for. Be smart and party responsibly and you’ll be fine like Frankenstein.

Did we mention there are waterbeds? In pods? On the ROOF?

Thursday Reception: Pajama Party!

september 17, 2010

The Standard is totally cool with us walking around in our pajamas provided no decency laws are being broken. SO, since we want to keep Thursday low-key, our Third Movie/Reception will be a Pajama Party!

It’s totally optional, but cool if you come hang w/ us in PJs! We know you’re looking forward to the big events of the weekend, and we are too!

We want YOU for the costume pageant!

september 16, 2010

On the fence about being in the costume pageant? Don’t have a talent? Fear your costume isn’t good enough to win a prize? Be just, and fear not! (Okay, that was bad.) Do it anyway! This is all for fun, and there are fifteen prizes available!

Awards will be given for Best Brad, Best Janet, Best Eddie, Best Columbia, Best Rocky, Best Frank N Furter, Best Magenta, Best Riff Raff, Best Criminologist, Best Dr. Scott, Best Trixie and Best Transylvanian.

You can choose to bypass the talent portion of the competition, but you will not be eligible for the top three prizes, which are:

Pretty Slick Costume Bitch!
Supreme Costume Bitch!
Grand Supreme Costume Bitch!

These top prizes will be given to people who excel in two or more areas of the pageant. Meaning, you can have a fair-to-middlin’ costume but be awesome at blowing bubbles in your Magenta sheer, and charm the pants off the judges with your Q&A, and end up being a Bitch.

Don’t miss the chance to be crowned in front of Barry Bostwick!!

Help Us Create the 35th Anniversary Slideshow!

september 13, 2010

Hey kids!

We are compiling a slideshow of Rocky Horror history – all 35+ years of it. We’re going to play it on screen before the big show Saturday night, and We’d Love It if you guys can help!

We need good to high quality photos (jpg is perfect) of Rocky history – not just some performers in a theater that could have been taken any year, but historical moments, like when Pat Quinn visited you, or when someone got married onstage at your show, or when disaster struck and people in Rocky Horror garb pulled babies out of burning buildings. We also need images of Rocky press, like when the movie broke a record, or when Richard O’Brien was given the Nobel Peace Prize, or whatever.

Please send images to slideshow (at) sinscon.com by Thursday night September 16th to have them included. That’s in three days!

THANK YOU. we also hope to give out copies of this slideshow to all of you at con, so have your history be a part of everyone’s history!

in community,
Sins O’ The Flesh

Preshow Updates and a Poster Contest!

september 6, 2010

Live Preshow Registration is CLOSED! We are still accepting a couple more video submissions, so email info@sinscon.com with your info ASAP!

We really want the Saturday night show to be about you, the Rocky Horror community. We want to show you off to the rest of Los Angeles! So in order to accomplish this, we’d like every cast (that can manage it!) to bring us a poster that displays your passion for Rocky Horror and celebrates the 35 year tradition. You can create a poster, put together a collage, whatever you like that displays your passion and tradition. The size should be the classic 27×40. Style, content, and overall feeling are the parameters we will judge by. The winning poster will be autographed by Barry Bostwick for the cast to take home and display in their theater!

Please email info@sinscon.com so we know what to expect!

Casting Is Up!!

september 2, 2010

Buy Your Pass Before the Price Jumps!

august 30, 2010

On 9/1, 2-day passes jump to $95! Don’t delay and buy your pass now!

http://www.sinscon.com/registration/

Also just as a reminder, our next webcast is on the 1st as well, where we are announcing the All-Star Cast! Check out the Facebook event and let us know you’ll be there!

Next Webcast, Event Signups, and More!

august 27, 2010

Con is officially less than a month away, and boy do we have a lot in store for you! Remember, if you haven’t registered yet you should do so now before the price jumps to $95 on 9/1!

Our next webcast is scheduled for that same day, 9/1 around 6:30-7PM PST. Check here for the link! We will be revealing the official CASTING for the 35th Anniversary Convention show!

Also, if you are interested in participating in the Rocky Feud, we will be picking teams at the webcast!

Wait, what the hell is Rocky Feud? Ever watched a game show and screamed at the T.V. that you know an answer the dumb contestants didn’t? Ever wanted to get on the stage and show everyone how easy it was? Well, here’s your chance! We are taking names to participate in the Rocky Feud. Just like the Family Feud, but more perverted. “Survey says” it’s going to be a great time.

If you think you have what it takes to guess responses given by a Southern California Rocky Horror audience, send your name in to info@sinscon.com along with your cast name and whether you would like to be considered for the team captain position. We will draw names for a team captain, 4 team members and 2 team alternates for 4 teams. You must be registered for the convention to be eligible.

Check out these pictures of our last Feud here.

We have heard lots of talk about Cast Preshows, which is great! However, we only have a set amount of time for live preshows. Even if you’ve mentioned your plans to us before, SIGN UP for a time slot at The Preshow Registration Form before 9/5. If you have a video preshow, sign up too so we know! The more the merrier with those.

Announcing…the ROCKY HORROR COSTUME PAGEANT!

august 23, 2010

So, you’re a really good tap dancer and you’re sick of those Columbias who win costume contests by just standing there.  You’re an Eddie who can blow a saxophone like nobody’s business…or you’re a Janet who can literally suck the chrome off a trailer hitch.  Well, now you can win an AWARD for that!

The 35th anniversary costume contest will be like no other contest before.  It will have three sections:

1) a question-and-answer section where you must answer a question in character
2) a costume parade where you and all the other people dressed like your character will strut your stuff on the catwalk, and
3) a talent section where you can do anything you want, in character, for 90 seconds.  You can shadowcast a scene, play an instrument, recite a bad poem, or light your farts — as long as the kids aren’t horrified, it’s a go.

This is your opportunity to be as creative and ridiculous as possible, while still giving you a chance to win an award for having the most perfect tap shoes (sequins!  No, rhinestones!  No, sequins!!!)

Awards will be given for each individual character.  If you do not win an individual character award, you are eligible to win one of the top three pageant titles, the highest of which is the GRAND SUPREME COSTUME BITCH (or ASSHOLE)!

(If you wish to enter, please email casting@sinscon.com.  We would particularly need to know if your talent will require an audio, video, or other special setup. You may sign up right until the day of the contest, but we need to know about special setups in advance, or you’ll be singin’ a capella, baby.)

SinsCon Facebook Contest!

august 15, 2010

Is your cast in need of some new costume pieces? Perhaps a Magenta Space Wig? Or how about a full set of Floorshow arm gauntlets? SinsCon wants to help you out and get the word out about our Con to your fans and audience members.

How? We’re going to have a voting contest on Facebook! The cast who gets the most votes will be able to nab $100 of Rocky Costuming*!

What do you have to do? Well, read these goddamn rules. READ THEM CAREFULLY. There aren’t that many, we promise. If you do something incorrectly and your vote isn’t counted, we will not be held responsible!

First, one of your cast members must be coming to SinsCon in order to claim the prize. We want you to come represent your totally awesome cast!

Second, voters MUST be fans of us on Facebook. If you don’t Like SinsCon yet, why the hell not?

(If you’re not on Facebook… we still totally love you. You just can’t vote.)

HERE IS HOW YOU VOTE!

Update your Status with the following:

“I want [your cast of choice here] to win the @Sins O’ The Flesh Convention Audience Participation Costume Challenge, and you should too!”

You may have to type out “@Sins O’ The Flesh Convention”. What you want to happen, is to have the status “tag” or “link” to our Facebook Page. This ensures that your vote will show up on our page’s wall. If your status post does not end up showing up on our wall, you may repost it there!

Votes will ONLY be counted if:

1) You are a fan of our page.
2) The status is on both YOUR wall and OUR wall and links to our page.

Take a little time to make sure it works out right! Because you can only vote once anyway. Duplicates will NOT be counted.

Voting will continue until 11:59PM (PST) on August 31st. We will announce the winner shortly after!

Now… GO VOTE!

*You can choose $100 worth of costuming from www.rockywigs.com, some exceptions may apply.

Casting Deadline Extended, & Third Movie Announced!

july 28, 2010

Two things: the casting deadline has been extended, and the third movie has been chosen — CLUE!

We’re giving you two more weeks to send in audition videos and DVDs (and two more weeks to send in your pictures for Shocky)!  Your audition videos must be postmarked by August 15th…no exceptions!  Now get your butts in front of a camera pronto!

The results of our poll gave us a clear vision of what you want to see on Thursday night…and that would be “Clue”!  If you’d like to perform in “Clue,” you can send photos of yourself in costume to casting@sinscon.com by August 15th.  Or you can just relax, sit back and enjoy the show on Thursday!

The Million Dollar Theater (And Flickr!)

july 17, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen, in case you missed this announcement on our webcast, our Saturday venue is the beautiful Million Dollar Theater!

From Cinematreasures.org:

“Sid Grauman’s first major theatre was named Grauman’s Theatre when it opened on February 1, 1918 with William S. Hart in “The Silent Man” Following the hype over its price tag, it soon became known as Grauman’s Million Dollar Theatre, although it was not officially named this until 1922. The auditorium was built behind the twelve story Edison office building, the exterior is a magnificent example, of a variation of Spanish Rococo style, known as Churrigueresque. Deeply molded features decorate the theatre entrance and higher up on the facade are heroic figures of the arts, with symbols of western Americana, such as bison head, eagles and longhorn steer skulls, all the work of sculptor Joseph Mora.”

The theater is only a few blocks from the Standard Hotel, and we will provide shuttles for quick transportation or a map for those who prefer to walk and take in a little of Downtown LA

More photos are available to see at our newly created Flickr page! We plan to add more venue/downtown photos as we go, and also plan on putting some actual (PG-13 and below) Convention photos up here!

Con T-Shirt Challenge Post #12

july 17, 2010

Another International submission from Jay, who is in a super-secret location! And by that I mean Cuba.

“Here I am getting my drink on at the Tropicana Club, the famous cabaret in Havana, Cuba. I’ve also attached a couple photos of the non-Rocky Horror entertainment so you can get a feeling for the milieu. Fishnet is important to both Rocky Horror and the Tropicana…

I can’t wait to meet everyone in September!

Adios por ahora,
Jay”

Thanks Jay!

Two weeks left to send in your audition videos!

july 16, 2010

The audition deadline (August 1st) is fast approaching!  We know lots of you hot things want to strut your stuff in the All-Star show, so remember to send in your videos so we can cast you!  Your video or DVD should be postmarked by 8/1.

For more info, go to the casting page!

Also, if you can, please send us tapes of -yourself- doing stuff rather than a tape of your cast performing in your theatre. The info on the site is sort of ambiguous, but we would like tapes of just you if possible. If you’re going to send us a tape of your cast (which is not preferred, because we want to focus on the person auditioning) you should mark what character you’re performing on the tape so we’re not playing guessing games.:)

Last Day To Vote!

http://sinscon.com/third-movie-poll/

Cliff has starred in over eighty motion pictures including Glory, The Craft, F/X, Carnosaur 2 and The Hunger. Not widely known is the fact that Cliff was RHPS director Jim Sharman’s first choice to play Brad in the film, but Cliff was booked shooting a TV series in LA and unavailable at the time.

Both are delighted to be Marquee guests for the Shock Treatment celebration and to personally meet the fans at their very first convention appearance!

“I am standing infront of Alpha Company 2-23 Infantry Regiment’s MGS Stryker in an undisclosed location in Iraq. I will be returning to America a month before con and am eagerly looking forward to getting my RHPS on.”

The kind of rates we got are absolutely unheard of in Downtown Los Angeles!

This is a 207 room hotel, and we’ve only blocked 125 rooms to be on the safe side, so BOOK AS SOON AS YOU READ THIS!!!

We chose this hotel for a number of reasons, and one was that we were confident that we could book out most of, if not the entire, place. This is Rocky Horror’s hotel. You definitely want to be here, as it’s conveniently located four blocks from our performance venue, and some events will take place here.

For individual reservations, please call 213-892-8080 or 866-670-8686 and reference “Rocky Horror”. All reservations should be received by the hotel no later than Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in order to get the above discounted rates.

The Standard is one of the most beautiful, chic, and nightlife-oriented hotels in Los Angeles. More important than all the amazing aesthetics is the fact that it has an incredible staff that will treat us with respect and is delighted to have us.

Tired of being on the other side of the hotel from your Rocky friends? That won’t happen here! We have several entire floors blocked for Rocky in the lower to middle levels of the hotel! On the 5th floor there’s a central meeting room called “The Blonde Room” which fits about 60 people- that’s ours all night after hours, and the entire 2 floors surrounding it are too!

They will even allow us some measure of control over who is placed where depending on the room type you reserve. When you register for the con, simply click the check-box about whether you prefer a quieter room or don’t mind a louder area, and we’ll print those lists off and cross reference with the hotel staff and try to accommodate you as best we can.

Have you ever had a problem with gruff hotel security at past cons? Well, check this out: Sins will have several “Event Staff” on duty on each of the main Rocky floors from 11pm-5am who will be available to help guide you, our guests, and who will act as liaisons to hotel security. We’ll be given a chance to police ourselves before big bad Bubba comes along to spoil our fun. Sins will also help the hotel come up with a brief that will be given to all staff for training purposes — they will know what to expect from us. This abundance of open, honest, and candid communication will allow for better understanding and a better experience for you, our unconventional conventionists! (Sorry — had to do it!)

Amenities
In your rooms you’ll find complimentary wireless internet, glass encased walk-in showers, iHome iPod docs, and where their website says “interesting mini-bar.” that means condoms are included. Did we find the right place or what? There’s even an on-site 24-7 diner.

I could go on and on and on about the amazing things this hotel has to offer. It’s best you just click on the link above and check it out…if you can make it past the amazing main-page slide show!

Friends, we are so very pleased to have found such a fun place we know you will enjoy. Every good con starts and ends at a good hotel, and we’re confident that we’ve picked a real winner here for you guys. Can’t wait to see you all in September!!!
